“When you stand and share your story in an empowering way, your story will heal you and your story will heal somebody else.”
- Iyanla Vanzant
This project is a work of love. Pulling the stories together to give voice to the challenges of life, as well as the transformation, hope and healing that is ours to receive, is the dream birthed by Lisa Browning of One Thousand Trees.
Lisa values the profound gift of each person and their stories, and encourages people to step forward and share their own truth.
We all have a story. Everyone in this life has faced adversity and challenge, to one degree or another. It is only when we face our challenges, with an underlying faith that we will come through them stronger and more aligned with our authentic selves than ever before, that we give ourselves permission to shine.
Volume 1 of SHARING: our stories, our selves, our success was released in December 2013, in commemoration of the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women.
Volume 2, an anthology of men's stories, was published in November 2014, in commemoration of International Men's Day.
Volume 3, the second anthology of women's stories, was published in December 2015, and Volume 4, our second anthology of men's stories, was published in December 2017.
Volume 5, the third anthology of women's stories, was published in April 2019, and the official launch was on April 13.
Volume 6, the first volume to contain both men's and women's stories, will be published in the Spring of 2020.
Care for the Caregiver, our first special edition anthology, will be published in April 2020. Go to our Special Editions page for more details!
Our Sharing Circles are an evolution of the previous Sharing evenings, which first began in 2014, after the first anthology was published. The concept is the same, but the format has changed somewhat. Rather than bringing in guest speakers to talk, in a presentation-style format, our evenings are now an informal conversation, with an underlying theme of using our gifts, seeing the light through our own darkness (ie coming to an understanding of how everything we have been, or are going, through presents an opportunity for growth), and discovering what it is we are meant to be doing in this world.
All evenings are free of charge, but advance registration is recommended.
It is our hope that these evenings will bring people in our community together, not only to receive valuable information, but also to experience hope, inspiration and a confidence that we are not alone. When we work together, amazing things happen!
